Water Hammering is the pressure wave when a fluid in motion is forced to stop or the fluid changes direction suddenly. This usually happens when a valve in a piping system is closed which propagates a pressure wave in the system.
Brighton assesses all Water Hammering situations, as it can be a very dangerous circumstance. Vibration in the pipe may cause it to fail, the pressure wave my destroy expansion joints, or the force or the pressure wave may be so severe causing the pipe to move violently causing harm to personnel.
